An official banner drop and information fair will mark the start of Sexualized Violence Awareness Week. Come hear key representatives from the Anti-Violence Project, UVSS and Student Affairs speaking about the importance of sexualized violence prevention on campus. Take the Let’s Get Consensual pledge and engage with a number of related campus groups and community organizations present to provide information and connect students to support resources.


Meeting at the Intersections: Conversations on Preventing Sexualized Violence on Campus

September 15, 2015 – 6:00pm- 8:30pm | Vertigo SUB

Join in the conversation on ending sexualized violence through an intersectional lens to address the multiple forms of oppression that perpetuate violence on campus and in our society. Hear from social justice educators Darnell Moore and Anna Soole, with a feature spoken word performance from the Victoria Youth Poet Laureate, Zoë Duhaime.

Speaker/Performer Bios:

Zoë Duhaime is the Victoria Youth Poet Laureate; a spoken word artist and page poet studying Religious and Women’s Studies at UVic. She loves to discuss youth in poetry, gender in art, and forgiveness versus mercy. Zoé is currently working on her first poetry book and illustrations, I Must Look Like a Fury.

Darnell Moore is a Senior Editor at MicNews and Co-Managing/Editor at The Feminist Wire. Along with NFL player Wade Davis II, he co-founded YOU Belong, a social good company focused on the development of diversity initiatives. Darnell’s advocacy centers on marginal identity, youth development and other social justice issues.

Anna Soole is a Métis social justice facilitator, public speaker, and sexual health educator whose practice is founded in experiential education and arts-based social and ecological justice with a focus on gender, sexuality, sexualized violence prevention, intersectional anti-oppression and Indigenous feminism.


The Clothesline Project

September 14-18, 2015 | Displayed at various locations on campus

The Clothesline Project is an international campaign where survivors of sexualized violence can share their stories by creating art on t-shirts that are displayed on a clothesline for others to see. Participate in creating a t-shirt or view the display on campus at various locations during the awareness week.

T-Shirt Making for the Clothesline Project

Students can decorate t-shirts that will be added to the Clothesline display by visiting a t-shirt making table facilitated by volunteers from the Anti-Violence project on Monday, Sept 14th, 11:30am-2:30pm at Petch Fountain and on Tuesday, Sept 15th, 11:30am-2:30pm in-front of the SUB.
