JOB DESCRIPTION
OUTREACH OFFICERANTIVIOLENCE PROJECT
UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA STUDENTS’ SOCIETY

FUNCTION:

The Outreach Officer provides administrative support to the Anti-Violence Project (AVP) and assists in the projects, campaigns, and goals set by AVP.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

1. The Outreach Officer reports to the AVP Coordinator and to the University of Victoria Students’ Society through the general manager.

DUTIES:
1. Assists the AVP Coordinator in volunteer recruitment and training.
2. Organizes and supervises the Outreach Volunteer Committee.
3. Delegates duties and responsibilities to trained volunteers.
4. Assists the AVP Coordinator in developing and implementing workshops on-campus, including Resident Advisor training and New Student Orientation.
5. Assists the AVP Coordinator in organizing special events on-campus
6. Assists the AVP Coordinator in developing education and prevention print materials.
7. Assists the AVP Coordinator in providing support, information and referrals to individuals affected by sexualized violence.
8. Attends staff, volunteer and committee meetings and other meetings as required.
9. Ensures all activities and work performed are carried out in a manner consistent with the values of the AVP and the UVSS.
10. Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be a member in a good standing of the University of Victoria Students’ Society.
2. Demonstrated feminist analysis of issues related to sexualized violence and abuse and ability to communicate such in workshop and presentation situations.
3. Demonstrated comprehension of anti-oppressive analysis.
4. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people in workshops and presentations.
5. Experience working with/in social justice organizations and/or sexual assault centres.
6. Experience in facilitating workshops and presentations.
7. Experience in event organization.
8. Experience in volunteer training, coordination and supervision.
9. Experience in crisis-intervention and support work, knowledge of community resources available to survivors of violence at UVic and in the community.
10. Able to remain calm, respectful, non-judgmental and approachable in challenging situations.
11. Able to work independently and as part of a team of paid and volunteer staff.

This is a student, part-time, hourly waged, union position with the United Steelworkers.
