Volunteer with us!

The Anti-Violence Project is looking for passionate volunteers! We are the on-campus sexual assault centre at the University of Victoria. We provide sex-positive, anti-oppressive services to people of all genders to prevent and act against gender-based and sexualized violence, including regular peer support hours, free workshops, outreach activities, and free safer sex supplies. Our education and advocacy initiatives on campus and in the community include collaborative events and campaigns to raise awareness about gender-based violence and to promote healthy sexualities. Whether you’re a UVic student, alumni, staff, faculty, or a community member, we are here to support you.

AVP depends on the dedication and passion of our team of volunteers. Volunteering with us is an opportunity to support survivors of gender-based and sexualized violence, contribute to community on and off campus, be involved in activism, learn a range of skills, meet like-minded folks and form lasting friendships. We encourage people of all genders, backgrounds, and abilities to apply. Applications for our volunteer training program are due April 23rd at 12pm (deadline changed due to SUB closure for the long weekend).

This year, the training will cover topics such as consent, care, colonization, heteropatriarchy, unlearning white supremacy, and so much more. (No worries if you aren’t familiar with these terms, it’s all covered in the training!) As volunteers, you will bust myths about sexual assault and imagine creative ways to disrupt systems of violence. We’ll give you the information and skills needed to support survivors, facilitate workshops, and engage folks in conversations about rape culture and how we can create a culture of care and consent!

Our 2019 volunteer training program takes place over 6 weeks in May/June. From May 14th to June 4th, we’ll meet for 3 hours every Tuesday and Thursday evening to learn about consent, rape culture, and resisting systems of oppression, culminating in an afternoon of celebrating consent culture on June 8th. Following a week of individual check-ins, we’ll start on peer support and workshop facilitation skills from June 17th to 23rd (dates and times TBD).

We are so excited to hear from you, and can’t wait to meet our new team of volunteers!
