 Annual Sexualized Violence Awareness Week

The Annual Sexualized Violence Awareness Week will take place on September 20-22nd, 2022! This year, we’re continuing to hold space for conversations about boundaries.

Information Booth and Activities:

Come visit us in front of Petch Fountain between 10am and 3pm from September 20-22! There will be information booths, opportunities to get connected with on- and off-campus groups, fun trivia, and a raffle prize to be won!

Wednesday September 21st is Community Day!

On Wednesday, September 21st, 2022, as part of the week’s programming we will be hosting a small community info fair dedicated to highlighting some off-campus community organizations involved in sexualized violence work and related fields. It’s a great opportunity to connect directly with off-campus resources and learn more about the amazing work they do! You can read more about each organization below:

About Sexualized Violence Awareness Week:

Each year, during the third week of September, the Sexualized Violence Prevention Coalition comprised of four core departments: the Office of Student Life (OSL), Equity & Human Rights (EQHR), the University of Victoria Students’ Society (UVSS), and the Anti-Violence Project (AVP), as well as, various campus partners – come together to host SVAW. This week focuses on issues concerning sexualized and gender-based violence. The timing is meant to coincide with and bring awareness during the peak period in which sexualized violence typically occurs on campus.

While conversations about consent, and working towards a shift in campus culture is something we engage in year round, Sexualized Violence Awareness Week offers an opportunity to start off the academic year collectively:

  • Normalizing conversations about consent and expanding our own understanding (bring in some nuance!)
  • Exploring how to engage in healthy, positive, respectful relationships with each other
  • Building a community of support and care while we work together to end rape culture on and off campus
  • Highlight the services available on campus and in the wider community!
